Racing stars of tomorrow

I follow some guys that I believe are going to be stars of tomorrow. They are great drivers, have made some fantastic results and in some cases, makes great things off the track, despite their low age. These are the ones that will create headlines in Formula 1 and IndyCars in the future.

Zach Veach, Jukka Honkavuori, Felix Rosenqvist, Petri Suvanto and Timmy Hansen are some of them. Expect great things from these guys and cheer on them when you see them on a track next time!

Scuderia Fernando Alonso

Ferrari knows how to motivate a driver. After the last season the Ferrari top dog said Felipe Massa had let his brother do the driving during the season. Yeah, that will cheer Felipe up.

FerrariNo top driver wants to join Ferrari when Alonso is there. They know they would be forced to the side with the occasional ”Fernando is faster than you” message.

Massa have not been as fast since his accident in Hungary a couple years ago and this year will be his last chance to keep the seat for the future so hopefully we will see a faster Felipe Massa. However, his driving is slightly less stable than nitroglycerin. Sometimes pole and win but more often mediocre results and unable to get any decent pace out of the Ferrari. Maybe 2012 we will see Ferrari bring on a rookie in the shape of Jules Bianchi?

2011 will see Alonso fight hard with the RedBulls for the podium and with help of strategies he could reach the highest step on some races. Especially when the RedBulls break down or crash each other. The Ferrari seems rock-solid in testing. Not very italian. Massa should be in the top 4-6 in the first races. Impossible to predict his driving further on.

On whole, I predict/guess Ferrari ends the championship second in constructors championship, Alonso third and Massa sixth.

My prediction for the championship
I have a feeling I want to adjust this even before the Australian GP. However, as today I guess this is how things will end:

What about Red Bull Racing?

The world champions Red Bull Racing will win again. They will have a hard fight with Ferrari in the beginning of the season and later on McLaren and maybe Renault will win races too.

Red Bull RacingThe pre-season testing have been fantastic for RBR in terms of pace. They have two great drivers and the best designer in the pitlane. The team will have self confidence this year, knowing they CAN win it all. Don’t be surprised if the mechanics grow real wings on their backs.

With Vettel now signed up until the end of 2014 and Newey also having extended his contract, they will have great stability which should only be positive at this stage. The question-MARK will be Webber. He is fast enough to be champion, but will he take the chance? He won’t be given the chance – he must take it.

The best moment showing how Webber and Vettel are came in Turkey last year when they crashed each other out. That showed two drivers with the will to win. It could have cost them the championships, but it did not. Well, maybe Webbers title chance in retrospective.

With Vettel becoming more mature and less desperate, he should only become a better racer. It’s not hard to single out him as the favorite for the title in 2011. I have placed a bet on Vettel and a small bet on Webber, despite not thinking Webber is ruthless enough for the title. He just seems like too nice. I hope I am wrong.

In an alternative reality F1 season started

In an alternative reality I spent this sunday watching the seasons first F1 race.

In reality I watched a 2011 season preview followed by the 1996 Australian GP. Not as exciting, but not much one can do about it as clashes in Bahrain continues in the shadow of the japanese quake.@F1John

I have spent my fair amount of time analyzing the testing and new regulations in Formula 1 and hopefully that will help in my pedictions for the races this year. I warmed up by nailing a couple of bets on NASCAR.

There are quite a few new things this year, moving rear wing, the tyres and KERS is back. That together with some pretty good new drivers should make for another exciting season. I will write my analyzis and predictions here over the coming days. You may or may not agree but I think you will enjoy the reading.

KERS

What will KERS be like this year? A few of the smaller teams will drive without KERS. Kovalainen is positive Lotus can do well without it in the beginning of the season, but we will see. KERS wasn’t very good two years ago, but it’s a great defensive weapon and will be used by cars ahead when the car behind use the rear wing flap. Will Lotus qualify high enough to be able to drive defensively?

My tough challenge in Scotland

So I won this trip and trainingcamp in Scotland with Army Fitness via cdon.com. I got some sponsoring from Söderenergi in the form of clothes and gear and I borrowed things from friends that I did not already have. Last weekend away I went.

Friday
We flew out from Sweden, 24 brave souls between 19 and 51 years old. That’s what it was meant to be but a couple were missing and another two would quit after the first day. In Edinburg we got a ”lunchbag”to eat in the bus. ”Lunch” was water, sandwich, a fruit, cookies and potato chips. That was the food to survive on until the evening. Interesting.

First thing we did when we arrived at the camp were to remove everything from our bags, check all on the list were there. We got some extra things including a heavy wooden plank that would serve as our fake weapon, expected to be with us at all times. This was a civil camp after all even if we had military instructors.

After that we had to pack the bags again, very quickly. What had carefully been sorted and packed at home were now in a state of chaos. Not good. Not funny.

Back into the bus and away to a secret location – happily surprised it was for clay pigeon shooting with a very british instructor.
After that the tough things started. Very hard. Physical training (PT) and running until 8 in the evening. Pushups, log carrying and a lot of other things.
Pain.
Everywhere.

Incredibly hungry. Potato chips and cookies are not optimal for heavy training. Someone should tell the british.

After dinner the training continued with among other things – digging trenches – until two in the morning. Finally we got some sleep.

Saturday
Having slept just over two hours, music on loud volume started. Woke us up at 5. Having listened to advice I were already dressed in running gear so I were prepared for the early mornings PT. The breakfast afterwards were very welcome.

The day continued with different physical and teambuilding sessions, like moving a heavy gun in parts some 300 meters, blindfolded obstacle course,climbing a telephone pole, military obstacle course and so on. Lots of clay and dirt, but the weather were better than expected during the whole weekend.

After that we packed our rucksacks for the rest of the days adventure. It started with four kilometers running with ”breaks” for PT. When we reached our goal we made lunch. We had got the british military field ration.  Unexpectedly good taste. May have something to do with hunger though.

We changed to boots for the next step. That was to take a walk up a steep 300 meter hill. Much tougher than expected becauase of all the previous running and muscle training. We helped each other in the group and finally reached the top. We were greeted with a beautiful view over the landscape all the way to the highlands snowy mountains.

We went down on tthe other side of the hill with one injured participants on a stretcher. Of course it was him who weighed the most with a a few kilos over 100. And we didn’t really have a stretcher. We had a tent whose fabric we used as a stretcher. That was heavy and difficult.

In the evening we had dinner in our ordinary clothes. We ate the scottish pride Haggis which made its entré to live bagpipe music. Taste like spicy ”pölsa”. Not at all as bad as you could expect. You should try it some day. Really.

After dinner dancing. They had invited ladies from the village and we danced folk dance for a couple of hours. Fun and sweaty.

Sunday
Waking up at five again. Only a PT session in the morning but I had some knee problem, so I cleaned the house with the other three half-injured participants. After breakfast bus to the airport. When in line for boarding – where is my boarding pass?! I got thoughts that I might have to stay in Scotland and searched my bags, coat and more before I found it in a pocket on my trousers. Probably put it there to know where I would have it. Rest of the trip home went well.

It was a very tough experience that I am happy to have managed. 60 days before the trip I could run 300 meters and with the training program I set up I managed to run 3-4 kilometers before this weekend. I would never have done this training program if I had not had this camp to look forward to. It is never too late to start training again!

So I am happy to have done it. Would I do it again? No way! 🙂

If you would like to do something similar, Army Fitness Sweden has a camp planned for somewhere in Stockholm archipelago in April. Rumour has it that this camp will be longer as well as twice as tough – both mentally and physically – as the one in Scotland. I will not be there with you. 🙂

Right. I am now not sure we can go on this trip, because it said from the beginning that the gear needed would be made available for us, so I expected I would need basic clothes and shoes. This was not correct.

I am not sure we can afford to buy everything we miss on this list so we could really need some help. Can you lend me anything? Seriously, it’s not like the January budget allows all these things..

Milestone

It’s been a couple of weeks since I last wrote anything and the time has been filled with christmas and illness so not much training have been done.

Today however, I did a running program that exceeded my expectations and it feels like I am on target. I will not be as strong as I wish I would be when I go to Scotland, but I have a chance of managing the running.

I have also tested the wearable camera a bit. It works perfectly!

I have to do some training this week, beside the snow shoveling and the christmas stuff. Today some cross training, tomorrow floor ball (innebandy), the best interwall training you can imagine. Some running on Thursday.
If the snowing continues like now (it’s mad here!), I may not have to do much other training during the christmas.

Now some words in swedish on a different subject:

Träning den här veckan ska jag också hinna med bland julstöket. Förutom den tämligen väl tilltagna snöskottningsträningen blir det lite cross trainer idag, innebandy i morgon och löpning på torsdag. Kanske något mer. Vi får se.

Om att avbeställa obeställd direktreklam

Today my blog will be in swedish about something totally different.

Jag avskyr obeställd direktreklam. Särskilt från Postkodlotteriet. Efter att ha skrivit ett inlägg på Twitter så fick jag svar från dem.

Jag tycker inte det duger. Inte alls. Inte efter de mängder direktadresserad  skräpreklam de skickat till mig. Jag tog ändå och skrev ett mail till deras kundtjänst i förhoppningen att de ska sluta om nu det är enda sättet. Här nedan är det mailet. Lämna gärna kommentarer.

God dag

Med ojämna mellanrum kommer det i brevlådan obeställd och oönskad reklam från er. Från början kom det enbart i min frus namn och jag retades lite på skoj med henne för det. Efter att par år då hon inte beställt något av er, började det adresseras till mig istället.

Att få post med utpressningssyftningar, ungefär ”tänk om dina grannar vinner men inte du”, är för mig att bli psykiskt terroriserad i mitt hem.

Att det ska krävas att man skriver till er kundtjänst för att förhoppningsvis slippa få skräpreklamen i brevlådan, är liktydigt med att det skulle vara ok att kasta ägg på era fönster ända tills ni kontaktar min kundtjänst och ber mig sluta. Jag aldrig bett om att få direktreklam. Det skall inte åligga mitt ansvar att få ett kommersiellt företag jag inte har en relation till att upphöra med oönskade utskick.

Många jag känner hyser stort agg mot er organisation för den obeställda reklamen. När jag nämnde det här för en kamrat nyss, så sa hon ”du har mitt fulla stöd”. Jag har ännu inte märkt av någon som uppskattar dessa brev. Förvisso är det möjligt att det fåtal lotterivinnare som finns bland de som prenumererar på lotter känner sig nöjda.

Vänligen skärp till er marknadskommunikation. Om ni saknar kompetens för uppgiften kan jag ställa upp som konsult.

Jag förutsätter att jag samt övriga boende i min fastighet hädanefter inte kommer få någon obeställd reklam från er.
